In addition to capturing formal good practices, such as TIM Guidelines, policy documents, and memorandums of understanding, FHWA is also interested in capturing informal good practices. Examples include a success story realized from the SHRP2 TIM Responder Training, how a local police department helped improve motorists’ awareness of their state’s Move Over law, or how a metropolitan planning organization contributed to the success and sustainability of a region’s TIM program. To capture these informal good practices, practitioners can use this Lessons Learned template.

For purposes of the KMS, a lesson learned is defined as a positive experience, negative experience, or outcome derived from an actual incident; training/exercise; personnel, equipment, or material decisions; or innovations/innovative practices. Success stories are considered positive lessons learned.

To prepare a Lesson Learned, simply download and complete this template, save it locally, and submit it as a PDF.
